ANNOUNCEMENT - October 15, 2019

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Thomas’s,

It is with very mixed feelings that the wardens of St. Thomas’s announce that our rector, Fr. Mark Andrews, has been called to become the rector at St. Jude’s Church, Oakville. His last day at St. Thomas’s will be November 30, and he will start in his new ministry on January 1.

We will greatly miss Fr. Mark’s leadership, the many gifts he has brought to St. Thomas’s, and his contribution to our thriving parish life over the past 15 years. We pray for Fr. Mark and his new parish. In due course, there will be a celebration event to say thank you and goodbye to Fr. Mark.

The wardens have already met with Bishop Andison to identify our next steps in finding a new rector. She is actively and enthusiastically shepherding our parish family and praying for us as we embark on this season of transition and of spiritual discernment for a new rector.

Fr. David Brinton will be appointed by the bishop as interim priest-in-charge starting on December 1 until the summer of 2020. We are looking forward to welcoming Fr. Brinton back to our parish.

In accordance with the Canons of the Diocese, a Special Vestry meeting will be held within the next few weeks at which a Parish Selection Committee will be elected by parishioners to oversee the process of seeking our new rector. Further information about that process will be published shortly. It is the intention of the wardens and Bishop Andison that, with prayerful discernment, the process of finding our new rector will progress smoothly and as quickly as is appropriate.

Thanks to Fr. Mark’s leadership, St. Thomas’s is in excellent condition. Through initiatives like Our Heritage Is Our Future, we are already focused as a parish on the future, and our new rector will provide leadership during this important and exciting time. As Bishop Andison reminded the wardens, our work ahead is to listen attentively and prayerfully so that the voice of the Lord will lead us to our new rector.
